Angels Among Us

Angel #1:  She came out screaming so much louder than Lily and with her eyes wide open.  She still doesn't like keeping them shut for very long periods of time:)

We finally decided on the name Grace Aurora (after the aurora borealis...not Sleeping Beauty).

I was so much happier after this labor and delivery.  It made me realize how awful my last one was.  I had the best nurse Hannah and even considered naming our baby Hannah.  I told them I could have 10 more kids if the deliveries were all like this!

Angel #1(Grace Aurora) meets Angel #2 (Lily Abigail).

Lily loved holding Grace right off the bat.  I love her crazy smiles.

First family photo.

Hanging out in the kitchen.

Hanging out in the living room.
Trying to keep Lily alive.  She got this huge goose egg and earlier found a knife and was flailing her arms with it until Jason noticed and took it away.

Angel #3:  My dad.  Grace came early and Jason's mom had scheduled to come a week after my due date.  I thought I could handle it, but I was mistaken.  I called up crying to my dad one night to see if he could possibly come out to help, and two days later he was here.  I still choke up thinking about it.  He and Lily became thick as thieves...playing on his iPad, going on daily walks, and playing in the park while I hibernated upstairs to recuperate and try my hand at breastfeeding (which turned out to be a failure, but hey, at least she got a week and a half of breastmilk...)

Come back soon, Grandpa, we miss you!!!

The following week, Hurricane Sandy came through and luckily we only had 3.5 days without power...it finally turned back on the night we got settled to sleep over at a friend's house.  Pictured above is our lantern we use for camping that became our living room light.

During the storm we saw our neighbor's tree break and ruin their trampoline that Lily and other neighborhood kids love jumping on.  Jason helped remove the tree for them.

We had Lily sleep in her snowsuit one night to make sure she was warm enough during the power outage.

Angel #4:  Jason's mother, Sherrie.  She is the mother/mother-in-law I want to be.  I called her Mary Poppins because each day she would pull some fun gift for the kids out of her bag.  I'm almost embarrassed to list all the things she did for us while we were here, but she basically took over all domestic duties and I was constantly blown away by her service.  She even had us go on two dates while she was here....oh, Sherrie.  Please come back soon.  You are too good to us!

She made me try and appreciate more this lack of sleep stage since babies are only so little for so long.
We had a snowstorm while she was here and she took Lily out to play and said that she LOVED the snow!

She also had us get family photos since it's not something I normally do, and I'm so excited to see how they turn out.  We did them around Yale Campus and Lily couldn't get enough of the bull dog!  Doesn't she look triumphant/majestic/insert your own thought.

CONGRATULATIONS!! I was wondering when you were going to have your baby! So, when was she born? I LOVE the name Grace. I was even thinking of naming our next kid Grace, that is if Ben would agree. And that's our latest exciting news. #3 is on the way! I loved your post and that your dad came out in a heartbeat to help you. Grandparents are the best. I remember when Em was born both my mother-in-law and mom came out, but when they left, and Ben was in Afghanistan, and I had been alone for a few days I swallowed my pride and begged Nancy to come back. She was there withiin a day or two. With the second, it's not the newborn that's hard, but the two year old! Good luck with the lack of sleep thing and all. Glad you survived the storm!! Love you!
