Girls Camp 2008

When my church asked me to help plan girls camp, I was honestly dreading it...I'm not a camper, and I thought I put my years in at girls camp when I was in Young Women's, but it's one of the BEST things that's ever happened to me. I was thinking about how this is a job I never would have applied for in the real world because I never would have thought I could have done it, but the Lord's hand accompanied us throughout the whole process, and I saw miracles the whole way. It ended on Saturday, and I'm still feeling like I'm on a girls camp high!
The energy was INCREDIBLE. Right from the get-go, the girls got up on their chairs and each level began singing as loud as they could so they could be the ones chosen to eat first. I started smiling then and had a hard time stopping until the end of camp.

The camp director thought of putting a 100 foot slip 'n slide on the hill, and it was a hit. I'm still cautious as ever so I didn't try it out, but I enjoyed watching the girls and other daring leaders have fun on it.

They have a cabin completely dedicated to crafts...the girls can go in there during free time to bead or paint or do whatever craft project the ladies have planned...a WHOLE CABIN. Wow.

Jason came up for a day and a night and a day. Hey, Jason, what are you doing playing badminton over a volleyball net on pavement. You should be working:)

We took the older girls to a boating/tubing activity. They were amazing. The beach was as long as this picture is showing, and they didn't even complain...well maybe there were a couple complaints, but overall they had a blast, and they shared their spots on the boats, and they had grateful hearts.

This is another leader Becky who helped out with girls camp, and she was a RIOT. I loved finding someone who found the same humor in things that I do. This was her standing alone in a crowd with a glow stick protruding out of her hat.

T.E.A.M. Together Everyone Achieves More. This was our running theme, and the girls lived up to its expectations. They helped each other out when the rain flooded tents and needed to be dried out, they were constantly asking the cooks if they needed help preparing meals, and they helped out when some of the girls were injured during the hike.

Each level was assigned a different olympic sport. On the last day each level shares all their cheers they've made up relating to their sport. This was level 4's cheer (their sport was badminton). How creative are they!?

Sounds and looks like it was a blast. I would have been apprehensive at first as well... I am glad you had so much fun! It looks like your girls camp is a lot cooler than the girls camp I attended.

Ash, I always thought it would have been fun to go to girl's camp with you. My fave pic is the slip n slide. That looks like a total blast. What kind of olympic sports did they do? Where did they hold the camp at?
